Project description

Castles in Zhovkva and Krasiczyn are outstanding landmarks of the Ukrainian-Polish cross-border area. Each castle brings hundreds of years of unique and intriguing human history. Unfortunately, the tourist potential of the monuments is underused because of their unsatisfactory condition. Innovative approaches to management and promotion are needed to deal with the new challenges on today’s tourism market.

The Promo2Castles project team believes that effective promotion, development of personnel’s competencies and involvement of local communities of both towns can encourage to visit these historical objects. Three workshops and an exchange program for cultural managers helped to acquire new knowledge and generated innovative cultural initiatives. The key message was the reuse of castles to transform them into culture-, creativity- and technology-driven hubs. Two major project events, Polish-Ukrainian Cultural Forum in Krasiczyn dedicated to Cardinal Adam Sapieha and Ukrainian-Polish Cultural Forum in Zhovkva on historical heritage were devoted to the past and the present of the castles. Discussions and presentations were complemented by an exquisite music programme, i.e. open classical opera concerts, which were attended by over 1000 participants. To ensure effective promotion of Zhovkva, the branding and marketing policy has been elaborated. The improved and updated website of Zhovkva Historical Reserve is now assisting visitors in exploring local landmarks.

The joint project activities laid a basis for long-term cross-border cooperation, which contributed in increasing tourist inflow in the regions and creating new opportunities for social and economic growth on both sides of the border.
