2.1 Improvement and development of transport services and infrastructure
Podkarpackie Regional Road Management (Podkarpackie Voivodeship, Poland)
Road service in Lviv region (Lvivska Oblast, Ukraine)
The main challenge in the Project’s area of impact involves improvement of the road infrastructure leading to quality improvement of the existing transport connections. The state of technical infrastructure hinders contacts and cross-border traffic, reducing the region’s attractiveness for investors and hindering development processes. Implementation of this project will respond to these problems. Its main objective is to support cross-border development processes in the borderland of Poland and Ukraine by increasing transport accessibility of the region and improving its road infrastructure. Achievement of this target will be possible by improvement of the technical parameters of a section of the regional road no. 867 of 9,37 km, improved securing of this section, as well as an increased transport accessibility between border crossings in Budomierz and Hrebenne. On the Ukrainian side target will be reached by improving road safety on the redesigned section of the road С142010 Starychi - Szklo (km 3+200 - km 4+900) through reconstruction of road surface, strengthening roadsides and road marking. Implementation of the project will result in shortening of the passage time by 10%. It will also result in an increase of accessibility of Podkarpackie Voivodeship for travellers from Western Ukraine and it will simplify road traffic between Podkarpackie and Lubelskie Voivodeships. Expansion of road infrastructure will bring new foundations for Polish-Ukrainian cooperation, as well as development of tourism and trade in borderlands. This project will be developed in a close partnership between the Podkarpackie Regional Road Management and Road service in Lviv region. Due to engagement of both sides in the project, an exchange of mutual practices, know-how and knowledge will be possible. It will affect a more effective implementation of the project and acquiring information and experiences which will be useful in the in the implementation of consecutive investments.
