The Ukrainian-Polish mountainous border area is a region of significant natural and cultural potential. Rich and diverse cultural heritage of different ethnic and ethnographic groups living there is embodied in old wooden buildings, which are a remarkable feature of this area. However, they are not sufficiently promoted as a tourist product. WOODENARCH project was designed to highlight these landmarks and create a competitive cross-border product, which would cover the area of Lviv, Transcarpathian, Ivano-Frankivsk Oblasts and Podkarpackie Voivodeship.
The implementation of the WOODENARCH project made it possible to create a common cross-border route, promote it and increasing awareness of the local population concerning the management of cultural heritage in Poland and Ukraine. First of all, project partners conducted the inventory of wooden architecture objects, studied the best practices of wooden architecture route creation. Then, the Carpathian Wooden Architecture Route was designed. The maps of newly created route have been published, 3 virtual tours created, 14 information tables (boards) installed on Ukrainian and Polish side. To attract the attention of local communities and emphasize the importance of heritage preservation, 8 meetings in 8 local communities, where UNESCO churches are located, have been were organized. Also, the photo contest «Wooden treasures of the Carpathians» has been organized. Three concerts of religious music took place in the wooden churches, which are now available on the Internet.
The WOODENARCH project results will have a long-lasting impact on the residents, authorities and visitors of Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk and Zakarpattya Oblasts, and the Podkarpackie Voivodeship. Moreover, created tourist route will be used by the tourists and can become a precondition for future development of tourist infrastructure in the Carpathian regions of Ukrainian-Polish borderland.
