Partner cities Lutsk and Lublin share a common ancient history and numerous monuments of historical and cultural heritage. The unique remains of medieval fortifications and other interesting monuments in Lutsk and Lublin often go unnoticed by visitors due to the low level of interest in monuments as mere historical buildings.
The aim of the project is to increase the number of visitors to the Old Cities of Lutsk and Lublin by highlighting their high concentration of historical heritage. The project seeks to strengthen interest in these monuments through a new cross-border and innovative tourist route: a virtual quest with augmented reality in Lutsk and Lublin. Creating such a virtual route based on the monuments in both cities will imbue these sites with new meaning, encourage visitors to learn about the historical facts, myths, and legends associated with them, extend the tourist age range, and create an accessible tool to promote their shared history.
The project in Lutsk involves developing a mobile application in the form of a virtual quest of the old city, while the existing tourist mobile application in Lublin will be supplemented with a new route. The idea of the quest is to place special signs/icons on plaques affixed to the monuments in Lutsk and Lublin. These signs can be scanned with a mobile device, allowing users to access an electronic guide that presents important historical events, the appearance, clothing, and lives of different social groups of the era, as well as local myths and legends in an entertaining format.
This will encourage tourists to search for new hidden signs and visit other monuments in both cities.
