Project description

The development of cross-border cooperation between the Polish and Ukrainian regions is limited by cultural barriers: a low level of mutual understanding, cultural differences, and negative stereotypes. Only a few of the cross-border projects have so far been dedicated to the theatrical heritage, leading to low awareness about it. For example, Marian Hemar, an outstanding Polish poet, journalist, playwright, comedy, and songwriter, born in Lviv, is still little known to the general public. The HemarHeritage project aims to not only to familiarize young people with the work of Hemar’s work but also to make them direct participants in theatrical performances of his works.

The project partners will develop cultural centres in Lublin and in Uzhhorod. In each of them, a creative group of children will be assembled. There will be two theatre workshops for these groups with the participation of Polish and Ukrainian professional actors, producers, and stage designers. During the workshops, they will prepare the little-known works of Hemar, which will be shown in Lublin, Uzhhorod and Lviv. Multimedia exhibitions with an e-photobook, comic book, and game devoted to Hemar’s work will be prepared and presented in Uzhhorod and Lublin and on the websites of the beneficiaries. It is also planned to prepare and publish the artist's biography.

The HemarHeritage project will contribute to the development of mutually beneficial cooperation in the culture sector between the cities of Lublin and Uzhhorod. It will help partners better understand each other’s culture and plan future cooperation in activities such as youth exchanges, creative groups, meetings devoted to common culture and history.
