The project “Roads connecting the Polish and Ukrainian borders” (acronym FasterSafer) is implemented within the Thematic Objective ACCESSIBILITY. The Lead Beneficiary of the project is the Bielany Community (PL) and the project partner is Manevichy District Administration (UA). The low standard of local roads due to their poor technical condition is the main problem that is challenged within the project. Local governments try to manage both roads construction and the maintenance of existing ones, however, it is difficult because of their limited budgets. The implementation of the project will improve the accessibility of the cross-border areas while the increased economic and touristic attractiveness will result in higher revenues. The residents will be the first ones who will benefit from these changes.
More about the project you can read in the enclosed pdf file.
In March 2019, the lead partner released the tender for the construction of the road sections in the Bielany Commune (Kowiesy – Ruciany and Bielany Jarosławy – Ruciany road sections) and signed a contract for the works which on all the reconstructed sections are carried out simultaneously. The road Kowiesy - Ruciany - Bielany Jarosławy was reinforced and the new asphalt surface with a total width of 5.0 m was laid along. The exit roads and pavements were also constructed. At the moment the investment progress on the lead beneficiary side is estimated at 40%. In the meantime, the Ukrainian partner also released the tender procedure for the road improvement and selected the contractor. Infrastructure works in Manevichy District are now expected to start. Apart from that, the opening conference of the project was organised with representatives of the authorities, project partners, staff and residents.
According to the grant contract, the project should be completed by 17th March 2020.
