In Lutsk (Ukraine), as part of the Cross-Border Academy of Development, on 16-18th December we organized the Forum of Journalists, which gathered representatives of local and regional media from the Programme area.

During the Forum, we informed participants about the Programme and presented the effects of the projects from the previous and current edition of the Programme. During the two-day visit, journalists came together at the TwoTowers project site, where they visited the Czartoryski tower, a fragment of the preserved defensive walls surrounding the castle and the cellars of the Jesuit Monastery. The conservation works under the project aim at organizing the area and equipping the planned museum with modern and interactive objects. Participants also visited the most important attractions of the city of Lutsk - Lubarta Castle and the city zoo modernized within the PBU 2007-2013 project. Journalists could find out about the need for effective coordination of rescue operations in Cross-border projects during a visit to the Department of State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Volyn region, which is implementing the Coordination project (PBU 2014-2020). Journalists saw an on-site operation of the fire and rescue equipment which was purchased under the project.

"The Programme gives us opportunities, a new view of the world, it not only changes the city, but the people as well" - proudly emphasized the acting city president Hryhoriy Pustovit in his welcome speech. The director of the department for international cooperation in the Volyn Regional Administration, Ihor Chulipa expressed his satisfaction with the activity of the Volyn Oblast in the implementation of projects, and the vice-consul of the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Lutsk, Marek Zapór summarized: "The Programme is a return to the Union, back to the roots and cooperation."

After this, representatives of the selected PBU projects presented their achievements in cross-border cooperation to the participants. Afterwards, the participants - divided into 4 groups - discussed about the specificity of media markets in Poland, Belarus and Ukraine, information topics, forms and content of materials that attract media attention, and about the what and how can be promoted in the field of the cross-border cooperation in the media. Discussions have resulted in proposals that are a valuable source of knowledge for the Programme.

The meeting of the journalists and representatives of the Programme and the projects was an excellent opportunity to show our achievements and to attract interest of the local and regional media for cross-border cooperation on the Polish-Belarusian-Ukrainian border, and also a chance for us to better understand the specifics of the media markets in each of the Programme countries.
