We are pleased to announce that another two PBU projects have been completed. These are the ‘roads’ projects implemented under Thematic Objective Accessibility aimed at improving the transport and communication on the Programme area.
Thanks to the trilateral project "Improving quality of transport infrastructure on the border area of Poland, Belarus and Ukraine" (acronym ImTraPBU), modernization of road sections in Poland (communes of Jabłoń, Milanów, Rossosz, Sosnówka, Wisznice and Parczewski Poviat), Belarus (Znamienka) and Ukraine (Zabrody) was carried out.
8 km of new roads were built
12 km of road reconstructed
Joint Transport Network Strategy developed
The second successfully complied project "Development of partnership cooperation for improvement of road infrastructure located in the borderland of the Podlaskie Voivodship and the Hrodna District" (acronym DOPC) was an initiative of partners from Podlaskie Voivodeship and Hrodna Oblast. The aim was to modernize the local road No. H-6054 which has a crucial meaning in terms of communication between Belarus and Poland. Thanks to the previously renovated sections (also under the PBU Programme, 2007–2013 edition), it creates one of the main communication corridors of the visa-free traffic, improving the capacity and flow of people and goods across the border. The 5.8 km long section of the road connecting the towns of Racičy and Sapockin towards the Augustów Canal was reconstructed, along with the bicycle paths, lighting, culverts, bus stops and a parking space. A valuable tourist destination the Augustów Canal will now be more easily accessible to tourist from Poland and Belarus.

Both projects required cross-border cooperation to achieve their goals and this cooperation brought them successes. Joint partnership meetings were an excellent opportunity to transfer best practices, exchange experiences, manage risks and solve problems.
Improvement of roads infrastructure quality has a positive impact on the socio-economic growth of regions. Overall safety is improved, noise and pollution are reduced. All that contributes to better living conditions for the inhabitants.
