Category: Project News

On 12th October 2020, we participated in the opening ceremony of the Treatment Care Centre in Independent Public Healthcare Centre in Ustrzyki Dolne. This facility was created within the Polish – Ukrainian project, led by the Bieszczadzki Poviat – “Together for saving lives. Integrated Polish-Ukrainian system of first aid in the area of the border" (HealthontheborderPLUA). The aim of the project is to counteract the threats and barriers in healthcare services for residents of border regions and people crossing the border by modernizing and equipping hospitals in Ustrzyki Dolne and Staryi Sambir.

Thanks to the additional funds received from the Programme within the envelope against Covid-19 (almost EUR 340.000), it was possible to extend the scope of planned activities both on the Polish and Ukrainian side.  At the hospital in Ustrzyki Dolne, the existing rooms were modernized and adapted to the needs of diagnostics, treatment and rehabilitation of patients with Covid-19 and coexisting diseases. The activities also included the purchase of the necessary medical equipment. The investment and purchased equipment will serve Covid-19 patients and convalescents struggling with complications from the disease both during the epidemic and after its end.

Marek Andruch – the Head of the Bieszczadzki Poviat – emphasized: "Cooperation with the JTS, with the Programme itself, is perfect. The Programme is very flexible, changes are quickly proceeded."

Health care and public safety are among the main objectives of the Programme. To meet the current challenges of the epidemic, an additional 3 M EUR has been allocated to 12 healthcare projects. The HealthontheborderPLUA project is not the only one in that poviat. As emphasized, by the former Head of the Managing Authority Adam Hamryszczak: "It is also road infrastructure – extremely important for this area – which has been intensively modernized recently. Both of these projects represent a significant added value for this area."
