On 21st and 22nd September, a ceremony was held to summarize the project entitled "Joint protection of people and environment through the creation of Ukrainian-Polish system of disasters prevention and response in the Carpathian Euroregion".
It was attended by representatives of institutions involved in the implementation of the project and the Center of European Projects, within the structure of which the JTS of the Programme operates. Director of the Center, Dr. Leszek Buller, emphasized the great importance of this project for security in the cross-border area. The main point of the conference were firefighters' exercises and demonstrations of specialist equipment.
As part of this project, a specialized training complex was created in Przemyśl in the form of a smoke chamber with full facilities. The chamber is equipped with specialized rooms in which the resistance of firefighters to psychophysical loads in conditions close to reality is checked. Firefighters in breathing apparatus have the ability to overcome various obstacles in conditions of elevated temperature, smoke, limited space, noise, and light effects. The fully equipped facility will allow for cyclical training of both Polish and Ukrainian firefighters of fire protection units. Co-financing from the PBU Programme also allowed for similar investments to units from the Ukrainian border regions. Thanks to Polish-Ukrainian cooperation, the safety of the inhabitants of the Ukrainian and Polish Carpathians will improve.
