Eco-education in Poland and Belarus has not been a priority in the last decades or so, in spite of its vital importance especially for such territories having a huge nature potential. So-called ecotourism is recognized as responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment, sustains the well-being of the local people, and involves interpretation and education. Environmental education should involve both local communities and guests. It should raise their awareness, sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding of environmental challenges and also indicate how valuable are local natural heritage assets for the development of tourism and outdoor activities.
The overall objective of the EnvirEduEcoTour project is to increase the touristic attractiveness of the Polish–Belarussian borderland via environmental education and eco-tourism promotion of Knyszyn Forest in Poland and Molotchnoye Lake in Belarus. A set of coherent and integrated actions planned within it will include the organization of two Green School Camps – one in Poland and one in Belarus, where a group of 40 youths will take part in various educational activities shaping their eco-friendly conscience and daily-life behaviour. Moreover, in Poretche Village in Belarus and the backwoods of Knyszyn Forest in Poland, the Partners will provide Ecological Festivals accompanied by the publication of guidebooks and audio-guides. The added value will be the creation of eco-education quest games and trail leading the participants through a diverse landscape of meadows, forests, and greenery.
The project activities provide to attract a large number of local communities, guests, and tourists and offer them a higher quality of service. Young people, their teachers, and families from the area covered by the project will have a unique opportunity to get into an intercultural dialogue on environmental challenges and nature protection efforts with their age-mates from the other side of the Polish–Belarussian border.
