Project description

Tuczna Commune, Kleyniki, and Domachevo municipalities are located very close to the country border and have common cultural roots. Despite their geographical location and origins, cooperation between local self-governments is not satisfying, especially in the sphere of culture. Poor promotion of cultural heritage sites, the lack of routes and publications for tourists, indicating the most important attractions, could not encourage many people to visit this area. Limited experience in cooperation, low funding for joint projects, communication difficulties, political and social factors led to the fact that local institutions from Poland and Belarus don't use the cultural potential of the region appropriately. As a result, old traditions and customs are slowly disappearing. 

In response to this, communes of Tuczna, Kleyniki, and Domachevo have created the project MeetCul aimed at developing cooperation between Polish and Belarusian local governments in support of preserving and popularizing the common cultural heritage of the border region.

For this purpose, partners plan to arrange various cultural and integrating activities. Almost 200 km long Border Bike Rally through three communes will be only one of them. Folk Fun and Games Festival in Domachevo, Midsummer Night Festival in Kleyniki, and Border Folk Festival in Tuczna will attract thousands of visitors. The events will promote folk traditions and touristic attractions of the partner communes, accompanied by promotional publications describing the cultural and historical heritage of the region.

Organized events and workshops will be an opportunity for better contacts and exchange among musicians, artists, and professionals on both sides of the border, creating a basis for the continuing cooperation in the field of preservation and promotion of the borderland cultural heritage. The experience gained by the partners in cooperation will result in further joint ventures in the field of culture in the border area.
