Project description

Religious Polish and Ukrainian songs are hardly ever broadcasted in the mainstream media and are barely known to the general audience, especially young people. Yet this kind of music, which was once an important part of people’s everyday life, has special charm and beauty. The Songs4Seasons project team believes that it definitely deserves being rediscovered.

Project partners are the parishes in Jaroslaw and Lviv, which have their amateur choirs performing both modern and historical religious songs. They want to share this valuable heritage and make it popular beyond their communities. Within the project, both choirs will have special musical training and common workshops in order to prepare for the performance and practice their skills. Also, the musical equipment and instruments will be purchased for both choirs. As a result of joint activities, the album with 16 religious songs will be recorded. Eight concerts will help to promote religious songs among the inhabitants and tourists on both sides of the border. Popularization meetings organized along with the last concert in each parish will explain the history and cultural impact of chosen songs through multimedia presentations. What makes the project interesting and unique, is that the selection of songs will be based on four calendar seasons and related to liturgical periods and will originate from different Christian creeds (including Roman and Greek Catholic Church, Orthodox Church, Armenian Church) still active in Podkarpackie voivodeship and Lviv oblast.

Project partners believe that all these activities will help to transform their churches into cultural centres, attractive both for local people and tourists. It will contribute to the cultural and social life of the communities on both sides of the border.
