Project description

Make yourself comfortable, get some popcorn, and be ready to enjoy the films about two beautiful border cities - Krosno and Uzhhorod. Watching these films can make you think more about these destinations, and you can end up packing your bags and heading to Podkarpackie or Zakarpattya. These cities, which possess a rich cultural heritage and are interesting in many aspects are still unexplored by tourists and their potential is not realised. The project team believed that the best way to reach their audience was to present people an attractive audio-visual story.

Promotion of the cultural heritage of Krosno and Uzhhorod was the objective of the MovieCities project. It was to be achieved by the creation of short promotional films. First, it was planned to conduct a competition among the youth for the best presentation of the cultural and historical heritage of Krosno and Uzhhorod (short videos on the Ukrainian side and a film and art competition on the Polish side). Then, the winners - 10 students from each country took part in the workshops, where they were taught the techniques of stop motion animation and short promotional films. They also took part in trips that allowed them to explore the heritage of their regions  and learn the techniques of moviemaking. In addition, Video Guided Virtual Tours were created to present the cultural heritage of the Polish-Ukrainian border region to young people in an easy and accessible way. As a result of the workshops, short film about Uzhhorod and a stop motion animation about Krosno were created. To present the project resulted and to discuss the role of the audio-visual sector in the promotion of cultural heritage, two events were organized: the International Forum "Cross-Border Cooperation and Audiovisual Sector for the Promotion of Historical and Cultural Heritage” " in Ukraine and the on-line Film Conference in Poland.

The project implementation increases the interest of the target groups in the rich cultural heritage of Krosno and Uzhhorod, attracting more visitors and contributing to the citizens’ welfare.
