Roztocze is a unique geographical and natural EU region, it has over 400 valuable sites on both sides of the Polish-Ukrainian border. In 2019, this cross-border area was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. However, it required joint efforts to improve its recognition as a region brand. The problems to be solved included: poor knowledge about the ecological values of the Roztocze, the functioning of the UNESCO Roztocze Cross-border Biosphere Reserve, as well as the need to protect its natural heritage. Bilateral cooperation between people involved in ecological and out-of-school education was also insufficient.
An extensive promotion through conferences, study visits, social media, publication of a brochure increased tourism and enhanced the recognition of the cross-border region. The Roztocze natural attractions and the project activities were promoted thanks to media campaign including TV and radio spots, as well as two fan-pages on Facebook managed by Polish and Ukrainian beneficiaries. Promotional materials related to the Roztocze Cross-Border Biosphere Reserve were distributed by people participating in study visits, and then directed to children from the Bioreserve area. The 16-page publication "Roztocze Cross-border Biosphere Preserve" printed in 4 000 copies was distributed during the events (2-day conferences and study visits) organized as a part of the project and after its conclusion.
The Bio-reserve project partners assume that the activities carried out under the project contribute to the development of knowledge about the common natural heritage, and thus initiate further cooperation in the promotion of common natural heritage. Media spots, fan-pages on Facebook popularise the Reserve. Thanks to teachers and students from Poland and Ukraine, the project results are significantly expanded. In addition, the beneficiaries plan to develop a joint strategic document on the promotion and preservation of cultural heritage.
