Special Protection Area The Upper Valley of Narew River (SPAUV) in Poland is one of the most valuable ornithological areas and one of the last unregulated riparian valleys in Europe. Many nature conservation programs, which are good examples for other areas and entities, are implemented here. In southeastern Belarus, there are the Dniepra-Sožski Reserve (DSR) and the Polesia State Radiation-Ecology Reserve (PSRER) with high biodiversity, which improved, without anthropogenic load, after Chernobyl radiation exposure. The PSRER was closed for the public for many years. The region has a negative tourist image and a poorly developed tourist infrastructure and it is also missing the educational experience that could be the basis of tourism development.
The overall goal of the NaturEduTour initiative is to exchange experiences and consolidate efforts of actors in Belarus and Poland for the promotion of cross-border educational tourism in these regions. For this purpose, PL-BY partners will organize two photo and art plein-airs, develop and display the mobile exhibition of photography and artworks regarding project target territories. A study tour to natural-educational tourism sites of the Podlaskie Voivodship will be organized for a Belarusian group. The “Wild Nature Fest” festival will take place in the town of Narew (PL). It’s also planned to develop two research routes on the Belarusian side and one educational walking trail on the Polish side, which will allow studying ornithological, botanical as well as geological and geomorphologic features of the area. The project outcomes will be presented by the project team at the Polish-Belarusian section as part of an international conference.
It is expected that joint efforts will create the basis for cross-border nature education tourism in Poland and Belarus. Project activities and communication products (video, original paintings, photos, guidebook) will present the project target territories to the wider audience, attract the attention of residents of Poland, Belarus and other countries, and the number of tourists visiting natural heritage sites’ will increase.
