Project description

In today’s global world people’s mobility is a fact. The Ukrainian language is heard more and more on the streets of Polish cities,  as is the Polish language in Ukraine. People come to a neighbouring country for many reasons such as work, study, business, tourism or private life. However, adapting to a new country and overcoming language and cultural barriers can be frustrating. The project team decided to bring people from both countries closer together. And they have chosen the most relaxing, comfortable and inspiring location for it – the library. Nowadays, the library is not only a place to enjoy a book in silence but also a centre of social and cultural life that can attract a wide audience.

The main goal of the EACH project is the cultural rapprochement of the two neighbouring countries, in particular, the two cities: Suwałki and Ternopil. In order to achieve this goal, the Days of Suwałki culture in Ternopil libraries will be held, followed by the Days of Ternopil culture in Suwałki, during which visitors will be able to participate in art workshops, presentations of books etc. Another project event will be "The book that changed my life" - action intended to collect the books by Ukrainian authors to form a library stock in Suwalki and the books by Polish authors to form a library stock in Ternopil. "Let's learn from each other" is a project component meant for increasing qualifications of library professionals through study tours to neighbouring countries. Two websites will be created and promotional publications issued. Also, audiobooks (fairy tales) in two languages will be recorded and made available for download.

The project will be an important step towards mutual understanding between the two countries and establishing contacts at the level of culture professionals and local institutions. This will contribute to improving the image of the two cities and their accessibility to visitors.
