BENEFICIARY
Zhovkva Town Council (Lviv Oblast, Ukraine)
The rich history of the Miejsce Piastowe Commune (PL) and City of Zhovkva (UA) has left an interesting inheritance. However, the poor condition of the infrastructure and the lack of publicity resulted in a low level of public awareness of the heritage. Partners of the Wide_Horizons project, as well as residents, see cultural heritage as an undiscovered potential to establish an attractive tourist offer.
The Wide_Horizons project will create two new products for the preservation and dissemination of local heritage, such as bilateral “Cultural Meetings”, which will be organized in Rogi and Zhovkva on a regular basis in the future. Both cultural meetings will promote the Polish-Ukrainian inheritance and consist of three parts: Local Handicraft, Cuisine Fair and Film and Music part including concerts and film screenings. Two conferences devoted to the assumptions and objectives of the project will be organized, as well. Additionally, the City Council of Zhovkva is planning to renovate the interiors of the local Tower Museum by equipping and adapting the observation terrace to the needs of visitors. Both partners will promote their activities by publishing an album about the heritage and tourist sights of Miejsce Piastowe and Zhovkva, a promotional video of the attractions of Zhovkva, as well as postcards presenting the local monuments and jointly performed activities.
The project will trigger the residents' awareness of their heritage and will increase their knowledge of the areas of Zhovkva and Miejsce Piastowe. Furthermore, strengthening contacts between local governments will result in lasting cultural and educational cooperation. The partners plan to develop an interesting tourist offer. They will organize “Cultural Meetings” in both locations every year, as well as various internal workshops, cultural events, symposia, conferences and other events promoting the main idea of the project.
