In spite of being divided by the frontiers, border areas can often be treated as a single cultural environment. Regardless of the differences, people across the borders are united by a common past and common cultural heritage. In particular, prominent people, whose life and works were connected with both countries, can play a unifying role, laying the groundwork for cooperation, raising the interest in common history and enhancing tourism development.
The KraszewskiPolesie project aims to study and popularize works of Józef Ignacy Kraszewski, a Polish writer, who lived on the Polish-Ukrainian borderland. Although recognized as an important literary and public figure in Poland, his name is hardly known in Ukraine, where he spent a large part of his life and created some of his masterpieces. The project partners are planning a series of events to promote the heritage of the writer. In particular, exhibits from the Museum of J.I. Kraszewski in Romanów (PL) will be displayed on printed stands in Omelne and Volyn Regional Museum (UA). Promotional recital “Benefice of J.I. Kraszewski” consisting of exhibition, presentation and performance will be organized in Lutsk. New promotional products, including a booklet, a web portal with a virtual guide and a promotional video will be created. Also, the study of historical and literary sources related to Józef Kraszewski’s work and life will be a part of the project. A study visit to Poland for Ukrainian culture and tourism representatives will help them to learn more about J.I.Kraszewski, modern museum management and tourism promotion. The project will also lay the foundations for future cooperation between the J.I. Kraszewski Museum in Romanów and the Volyn Regional Historical Museum as the Memorandum of Cooperation will be signed.
Facilitating the use of cultural and historical heritage of the Polish -Ukrainian borderland will enable more active tourism development and strengthened mutual connections.
