Museums are places where you can feel the past, see the present and predict the future. They are powerful centers of education and learning, responsible for the formation of historical memory and national identity. Nowadays, museums are not only places to store artefacts, but also the institutions, which provide a wide range of services, organize leisure activities and implement numerous cultural and social projects. In order to be attractive for various categories of visitors, the museums need to keep pace with the times by applying a modern approach and being accessible for everyone.
Unfortunately, most museums in the Ukrainian-Polish border area cannot respond to modern-day challenges, especially in smaller towns. SPIDI project was designed to improve this situation. The Volyn Local History Museum in Lutsk (UA) and the Regional Museum in Stalowa Wola (PL) will establish an intensive intercultural dialogue and increase their attractiveness for visitors. Improving accessibility to museums for people with disabilities is one of the key elements of the project. Other project activities include creation of a website, publication of the catalogue of the best exhibits in both museums, shooting promotional films and organizing thematic exhibitions in Ukraine and Poland. Trainings and study visits for museum personnel will help to increase their capacities in providing better services for different categories of visitors and in promoting their museums effectively.
Thanks to SPIDI project, the museums will be able to contribute to the promotion of the cultural and historical heritage of their regions, ensure more active involvement of people in a cultural dialogue and stimulate their interest in local culture and history. It will make both regions more attractive and competitive tourist destinations.
