The border regions of the Suwałki Commune and Ashmiany Raion face the same problem – insufficient use of the potential of historical and cultural heritage for tourism development. This state is due to several reasons – insufficient level of promotion, unstructured and incomplete knowledge of cultural and historical values, and the lack of effective, common and innovative promotional tools. Undeveloped tourist infrastructure such as objects of small architecture, information boards, road signs reduces the attractiveness of monuments in the eyes of potential tourists.
The implementation of HNS project is aimed at a multi-level solutions to the above-mentioned problems and shortcomings. Numerous events are planned on both sides of the border. Such as art and photography open-air workshops for children and youth. On the Belarusian side, a seminar for teachers on the education children and young people will be organized, as well as a 3-days guided tour on the newly created “Jędrzej Śniadecki Route”. The Polish partner will be responsible for organization of a 3-days kayak trip with a guide “In the footsteps of famous Poles – John Paul II” and a 1-day open-air cultural heritage festival. During the festival, bands from Poland and Belarus will perform, photos from workshops and 2 monographs about famous personalities of Ashmiany Raion and Suwałki Commune will be presented.
Activities carried out within HNS project will contribute to the promotion of the culture of the Polish-Belarusian borderland and will increase access of residents and tourists to historical sites and information about local culture. Increased social awareness about heritage assets will play a key role in heritage management as it guarantees public understanding for protection and preservation of heritage for further generations.
