The project was a response to the challenges caused by Russian unprovoked military aggression against Ukraine, supported by Belarus. The project team decided to address to the most urgent needs of Ukrainian refugees and victims of war.
The project activities were addressed to the Ukrainians on both sides of the border focusing on humanitarian aid and social integration of refugees. In particular, power generators, refrigerators, washing machines, microwaves, laptops, power banks, personal protection kits and first aid kits have been purchased and transferred to Ukraine. They are serving the needs of Ukrainian citizens who remain in Ukraine under adverse conditions. Also, to facilitate the integration with local communities, 12 educational trips have been organized for 360 refugees from Ukraine living in Podlaskie voivodeship and 120 local residents. In this way, children and young people of school age had the opportunity to adapt to new conditions by overcoming the language barrier, learning more about the history, culture and nature of the region and integrating with their peers. It also helped them to overcome traumatic experiences.
The humanitarian aid was timely support to Ukrainians, making them more resilient in the conditions of war. It made it possible to provide basic living conditions for internally displaced people, survive energy shortages, provide smooth learning process in schools and being able to provide primary medical aid where it is needed. Socio-cultural integration of Ukrainians in Poland contributed to development of long-term social relations.
