Category: Programme News

On June 26, at the beginning of summer, which is normally the best time for exploring rich heritage of the Polish-Ukrainian borderland, we have organized another event summarizing results of the 2014-2020 Programme edition. "BORDERLAND IS OUR COMMON HOME" was its title and it was dedicated primarily to the extensive achievements of HERITAGE projects implemented with the PBU Programme financing.

The event was held in the centre of Lviv, in a new space created thanks to our GalicianScene project. The event started with the welcome speeches by the Head of the Lviv Oblast Military Administration Maksym Kozytskyi, The Chairman of Lviv Oblast Council Yurii Kholod, Ambassador of the Republic of Poland in Ukraine Jarosław Guzy, Director of the Centre for European Projects Leszek Buller, Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Lviv Eliza Dzwonkiewicz.

During the entire event, the projects’ representatives shared their inspiring stories and discussed the issues relevant to the heritage initiatives such as understanding one’s identity through heritage, engaging local communities into cultural dialogue and managing local heritage for the benefit of the communities.

Presentation of projects was not limited to panel discussions – for one day the premises of the Polish Culture Promotion Centre in Lviv transformed into project fair showcasing multiple PL-UA projects. The entry was open to everyone, offering the possibility to literary touch the projects by participating in traditional crafts workshops, holding in hands interactive museum exhibits and books, tasting local cuisine, trying on traditional clothes and accessories, playing musical instruments, making virtual trips in VR glasses, to name just some of the attractions. The space was buzzing with music, laughter and lively chatting, creative vibes were hanging in the air.

Taking advantage of such honourable gathering, we have organized also the discussion about future Polish-Ukrainian cultural initiatives. It started from identifying what connects our two nations, in particular, similarities in the languages, mentality, values, traditions etc. The discussion continued with the ideas for future cooperation. The main tasks as seen by the participants, included overcoming existing barriers, building relations, creating a space for constructive dialogue. The most important directions of future cooperation, as named by participants, were: education in the wider sense, guarding and cherishing common heritage, promotion of Europeanness.

Cultural exchange and cooperation are very important because this is something that directly affects people, their attitudes, and it is important for us to work for good relations between people and between societies – said Mirosław Skórka, the Head of the Union of Ukrainians in Poland.

A visit to our ACCESSIBLE project, located nearby, was a special part of the agenda. It was joined by everyone interested in marking their communities more accessible and public places more welcoming for all categories of people.

The day ended with Ukrainian and Polish songs performed by Joryi Kloc band, who were part of the project MuzA implemented within PBU Programme.

Within one day, we have managed to show what cooperation in the field of heritage is about – discussion, dialogue, sharing, creativity, connecting past and future, traditions and modernity, joining in common celebrations.

Showing your culture, your traditions, customs and cuisine allows us to get to know each other, so that we can coexist, cooperate and work together – said Leszek Buller, the Director of the Centre of European Projects.

We hope that the experiences gained from this event will be widely used by its participants and the first opportunity for that within the Programme will be forthcoming implementation of the Small Projects Fund under the Priority COOPERATION.

We would like to express gratitude to everyone who joined us during the event, especially to the representatives of the PBU projects GalicianScene, TwoTowers, Rosettes, CBCPilgrim, VetHeritage, OilCradle, BugUnitesUs, BugGuardians, TouchingThePast, SPIDI, EACH, MATSYK, EthnoTour, GORGANY_HERITAGE, CarpathianBee, KoSol, ACCESSIBLE, MuzA, which contributed to its organization.
